Good breeders DON'T:

• Breed animals of unknown heritage.

• Breed rescues (same as above).

• Breed every heat cycle.

• Breed a female on her first heat.

• Have frequent "accidental" litters.

• Try to pass off animals of unknown heritages as a "new breed".

• Charge the same amount of money for a puppy that someone else has returned.

• Allow a mating to occur, unless at least 10 pre-screened completely qualified homes are secured.

• Advertise litters in the local paper or litters for immediate sale on websites (see above).

• Proclaim the "worth" of their animals by quoting percentage figures or wolf-heritage alone.

• Misrepresent content range, F-gen or the dog breed(s) involved.

• Utilize non-lupine type dog breeds in their breeding program.

• Keep animals on chains, aerial cable runs, cages, or within inadequate fencing.

• Sell you a puppy without first having investigated your suitability as a proper home for this animal as an adult.

• Sell you a puppy without first seeing some evidence of your containment fencing, adequate for the pup as an adult.

• Sell animals without a written contract that includes at minimum; a health guarantee, containment clause, spay/neuter requirement, and take-back or first right of refusal requirement.

• Sell puppies that have not been handled much prior to sale, or pups that are of more intensive temperaments requiring more involved early socialization, to inexperienced owners.

• Sell you a puppy that is of a temperament, content range or F-gen that's far beyond your previous experiences without ensuring you have been adequately prepared for care/management of the adult animal.

• Refuse your request to meet both sets of parents, at the location of where they are permanently housed.

• Sell puppies out of the back of their truck or offer 'free delivery' as a means of preventing you from seeing the conditions the adult animals are housed in.
